I am a senior environmental scientist, specialising in aquatic and marine ecology. My 25+ years of experience includes scientific and regulatory expertise both within the USA and internationally, with the last 9 years in the Pacific Northwest working with Federal, state, and tribal scientists and co-managers. I have applied my quantitative and analytical skills across projects ranging from population biology (fishery stock assessment), statistical modeling, customized tool development, data visulation, and more.

Stantec, Senior Environmental Scientist - Fish Ecology SME: Jul 2024 - Present

Position: Senior scientific and analytical support for regulatory compliance projects including hydroelectric dam relicensing and removals, Biological Assessments, ESA Section 7 consultations, habitat restoration and mitigation, onshore and offshore renewable energy, site remediation, water quality, water management and conveyance, and fishery management. Data analytic and statistical support for diverse projects.

Accomplishments: Senior author developing manuscript on spring Chinook spawning habitat carrying capacity, and thought leadership and technical contributions to California Centeral Valley Improvement Project and National Academies of Science committees and presenting at scientific meetings. Member of North America Quantitative Ecology team, statistical and analytical support for diverse projects. Contribute to business development and mentored junior staff.

Worley, Senior Environmental Scientist - Fish Ecology SME: Jun 2022 - Jun 2024

Position: Senior scientific and analytical support for regulatory compliance projects including offshore renewable energy, climate change risk assessment, salmon population assessment, assessment of fishing within global marine protected areas

Accomplishments: Procurred contracts with WDFW to develope and document new analytical tools for coho salmon population and fish impact assessment, and with The Nature Conservancy to look at recreational fisheries in global marine protected areas. Analytical support for a variety of projects, including development of a climate change risk assessment toolbox. Presented at scientific conferences and mentored junior staff.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Fishery Scientist: Aug 2017 - Aug 2022

Position: Monitoring, forecasting and reporting on salmon and steelhead population abundance for fishery compliance with the Endangered Species Act and US vs Oregon Management Agreement. Close coordination with other state, Federal and tribal fishery managers. WDFW lead representative to US vs Oregon Technical Advisory Committee. Worked closely with tribal co-managers, including CRITFC on mainstem Columbia River salmon and steelhead management, and Conferaded Tribes of the Colville Nation.

Accomplishments: Initiated and lead data modernization and analysis projects to improve transparency, accuracy and efficiency. Secured funding for, and lead development of a database for Columbia River salmon population assessment and regulatory compliance reporting. Contributed new thought leadership to technical issues on data management and analysis with direct application to agency obligations and priorities.

Ocean Associates (NOAA Contractor), Research Biologist: Sep 2011 - Jul 2017

Position: Conducted fishery stock assessments as a member of international and domestic scientific working groups. Served as NMFS representative to the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s Highly Migratory Species Management Team advising on fishery management policy.

Accomplishments: Made key scientific contributions to both domestic and international fishery management as stock assessment scientist and scientific advisor. Senior authorship of two peer-reviewed scientific publications.

University of Hawaii, Post-doctoral Scientist: Mar 2010 - Aug 2011

Position: Develop models to estimate behavior of fish carrying satellite transmitters, and contribute to development and deployment of databases to manage satellite tagging data.

Accomplishments: Developed tools for analyses of animal movement ecology, including R codebases and Access databases for large electronic tagging datasets. Co-authored a peer-reviewed book chapter on juvenile white sharks.
